Those hard things you are dealing with,
the days you fight to get through,
the depression pressing down on you,
surrounding you with darkness,
the pain you live with,
the exhaustion that plagues you daily.
Use it to build the next stepping stone.
One time I had a little who did not want to read.
Like he totally REFUSED to read.
Have you ever tried to MAKE a kid read?
The battle was on.
Against all my “friends” advice
I went out and bought the first Harry Potter book.
I read the first few chapters.
Then I read a paragraph, made him read a paragraph, I read another,
and so forth.
Then pretty soon I would read until it got really interesting,
then I would tell him, “I have to go make lunch.” or “My voice is going out.
If you want to know what happens next, you’ll have to read it yourself.”
He read it.
And this started a tradition in our family that helped
to give the rest of the kids an incentive to read.
First, you read the book.
THEN, you see the movie.
Obstacle: Kid refuses to read.
Hard things: fight after fight after fight to get kid to read.
Stepping stone: buy a book others tell you will surely turn your kid into a witch/wizard.
Success: get that one kid to read and even kind of like it.
Stepping stone: come up with an on going tradition.
Success: the next kids in line read sooner and with more enthusiasm.
Turn every hard thing,
every stumbling block,
into the stepping stones
that will lead to your great successes.
Just one example of many.
Sometimes you have to think outside the box.
Sometimes you have to go against the grain.
Sometimes you just have to push through.
Every time you do,
you will be stronger,
you will find your solutions faster,
you will find the positive in a situation sooner.
