Which describes you?
I have a love – hate relationship with control.
Sometimes I am out of control.
My mouth moves before I think. I yell or say something harmful.
I act, without seeing the consequences that might happen.
There are times I try and take control
from the one which it really belongs in the first place.
taking control of a project that does not belong to me.
Once in a while (far too often really),
I stand around thinking
“damn, who is in control of this mess?”
Only to realize it should be me.
Control can be a nasty word,
but when you are a manager
of a house,
of a project,
of a business,
more often than not control is just a balancing act.
Areas of control I am working on right now.
Not letting my mouth get the better of me.
Not letting my emotions get the better of me.
Biting my tongue when what I have to say will only make a situation bad.
Doing the things that are not fun but necessary.
Giving control back.
To God who should be in charge of everything anyway.
My free will is basically a power struggle with God.
So, I’m really trying to remember to say a prayer before taking an action.
“God, if this is your will, let it work.
If this is not your will give me a clear sign so I don’t waste my time.”
Leaving control in others hands.
Being patient enough to let others struggle a bit.
Being wise enough to know that
my way ISN’T the ONLY way.
Life is a process.
I’m not an expert,
but I have tools,
and I’m learning how to use them.
Think about one area in your life you are struggling with.
Where IS the control?
Where SHOULD it be?
Think of how it can be shifted
Take 15 minutes of action right now.
Journal it, make a specific small change that will help in this area.
Set up a music playlist with music
that reminds you to take your struggles to God.
Set your alarm for 15 minutes earlier tomorrow,
get up with the alarm and use that 15 minutes to speak with God about:
your plans for the day,
friends who need prayers,
the area you want to focus on.
Track your progress in the journal.
And don’t forget to journal three things you are thankful for,
before going to sleep at night.
15 minutes of action is still better than 15 minutes of standing still.
You can do anything for 15 minutes.
