COMFORT: Needing it, Getting it, Giving it

Comfort comes in many forms

Comfortable lounging pants.
Hubby’s heartbeat.
In the winter… a heavy denim quilt made from clothes from each of my children.
Certain Songs.
Being held.
Fluffy sweaters.
Soft T’s
Chicken noodle soup.
A kind word.

Those are some of the things I find comfort in. And some of those are irreplaceable and incredibly important to me.

In despair though, in the muck we call depression, even though I appreciated all of the above, I found the extra comfort I needed in one more place.

Acts 9:31

31 Meanwhile the church throughout Judea, Galilee, and Samaria had peace and was built up. Living in the fear of the Lord and in the comfort of the Holy Spirit, it increased in numbers.

2 Thessalonians 2:16-17

16 Now may our Lord Jesus Christ himself and God our Father, who loved us and through grace gave us eternal comfort and good hope, 17 comfort your hearts and strengthen them in every good work and word.

And so many others… of course, but alas my five minutes has been up for a couple now. BTW, I hope some of my words also give comfort.

  1. “Hubby’s heartbeat.”

Yes. Oh, yes. To me, it always said, “I am. I am.”

    1. I have always liked listening to his heartbeat, but last year he had a quadruple bypass… it’s significantly more comforting since then.
