What Defines You? Five Minute Friday

Or WHO defines you?
Do you give that power to others?

I am defined by my roles in this world.
I am mom, wife, daughter, sister etc.
I am defined by the things I choose to hold close to my heart.
I am Catholic.
I am a homeschooler.
I am a business person.
I am a thriver.

There are times when others try to define me.
If I went by what others say though…
I mean seriously, I’d be defined by others bad hair days.
I will not be defined by others.
I will not be defined by my children, on their bad hair days.
“You are the worst mommy in the world!”
I will not be defined by mistakes I’ve made.
I will not be defined by others opinion of how I should be living my life.

I will also not be defined by moments in time.
There was a time when I lived as if I were 100.
I could not move.
I could not function.
I was napping constantly.
I was not teaching my children as I should have been.
I was depressed.
I was disgusted.
And in one decision I was able to change that.
Because I did not let what was happening to me in that moment define who I was at my core.
And I believe that it was because of that one moment in time,
that I am more capable of helping others change the definition of how they live their lives.
My story… is inspiring.
My story… is unique.
My story… is ever changing.
Because I have chosen to define my life on my terms.

You define your own life. Don’t let other people write your script.

Inspired by the FMF prompt.

  1. I love your comment that what was happening to you did not define you. It is easy to let our circumstances or others’ opinions define us at times but there is so much freedom when we can step away from that and let God define us instead.

  2. I love that you are brave enough to not allow others to define you. You are not defined by the circumstances around you, but rather you define the circumstances by knowing who you are. Thanks for sharing!
